Alma Jungling

Alma Jungling, 91, Minot, formerly of Garrison, died January 26, 2013 in a Minot hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Minot, ND. Burial will be at the Garrison City Cemetery in Garrison, ND at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 from noon to 7 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison, ND.

Alma Jungling was born June 20, 1921 on the family farm north of Garrison to Henry and Rosalia (Neuberger) Sayler. She was raised and educated in the Garrison area. On March 12, 1941, she married Alex Jungling in Washburn, ND. They made their home and farmed east of Garrison until 1963 when they retired from farming and moved into Garrison. Alma was employed as a sales clerk in Cunningham’s Department Store, at the Garrison Bakery, in the laundry department at the Garrison Nursing Home, and after retiring from the nursing home, she worked with Alex cleaning St. Paul’s Lutheran Church until retiring in 2002. In 2004, Alma and Alex moved to Minot and in January of 2012, she moved into Edgewood Vista Assisted Living Center. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Minot.

Alma loved to crochet and quilt. Her hands were never idle. She spent many hours crocheting the Lord’s Prayer to create a beautiful wall hanging. Her many beautiful quilts were all hand-quilted and her afghans were of many colors and designs. She was also an excellent seamstress. Alma also loved to garden with a special touch with flowers. Everything she planted flourished, earning her a Yard of the Month award in Garrison. She also enjoyed her vegetable garden and loved sharing her fresh vegetables with family and friends.

Alma treasured each and every one of her grand and great grandchildren. Each one was like a special jewel to her and she always held them very close to her heart. Alma’s family and friends were very important to her and she always enjoyed visiting. We will always remember the kindness of her heart and the love she gave us.

Alma is survived by her daughters, Judy (Verne) Schilling, Mesa, AZ, Marlys Sorensen, Velva, son, Bruce (Debbie) Jungling, Minot, daughter-in-law, Valerie (Jerome) Jungling, Bismarck; 10 grandchildren, Robert, Clayton, Melissa, Jim, Christine, Stephanie, Brent, Eric, Cheryl, and Alex; 17 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Daniel, Justin, Jonathan, Ashley, Desiree, Cameron, Ted, Jon, Kenny, Maggie, Andrew, Megan, Caleb, Gabrielle, and Nolan; one sister, Ida (Leslie) Engel and one brother, John (Joyce) Sayler, both of Garrison, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alex, a son Jerome, a grandson Jerry, five brothers, Reinhold, Ernest, Herbert, Rudy, and Leonard, and four sisters, Katherine Sayler, Lydia Engel, Martha Bauer, and Lorraine Webster.
