White
August 7, 1998 – April 16, 2026
Amanda Rose White (Badger), 27, of White Shield, passed away suddenly April 16, 2026, at Trinity Health, Minot, ND.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison, ND. Burial to follow at the Memorial Cemetery, rural White Shield, ND.
Amanda was born on August 7, 1998, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Michael J. White and Susan Huwe.
Amanda was homeschooled before attending grade school at St. Bernard’s Catholic Mission in Fort Yates, North Dakota. She deeply embraced and learned the Lakota culture and language, and was raised with traditional teachings alongside her father and their Sundance family, regularly attending Inipi and Sundance ceremonies.
Due to her father’s career with the Bureau of Indian Affairs Law Enforcement Services and family divorce, Amanda attended schools in Winnebago, Nebraska, and South Sioux City, Iowa. She briefly attended New Town High School before graduating from Garrison High School in Garrison, North Dakota.
She went on to earn her Associate of Arts Degree from Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College in New Town, North Dakota. Amanda had a passion for psychology and considered pursuing an advanced degree in psychology and counseling, but instead began her career as a Security Officer, much of a surprise but encouraged by her dad.
Due to her closeness to her Grandpa Jerry, Amanda intended to change her last name to the family name Badger, but passed away before she could do so, and surprise her grandmas, whom she loved to play bingo with.
Amanda proudly served her community as a Security Officer for the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation, protecting and serving her home district of White Shield.
From an early age, Amanda was known as a quiet, observant, and intelligent young woman who blossomed as people came to know her. She had a sharp and wide-ranging sense of humor, often sarcastic, dark, gross, explicit, profane and playful, and shared it freely with friends and family both in person and online. She was deeply loving, fiercely protective, honest, and generous with love and gifts, always giving her heart fully to those she cared about.
Amanda had many passions and hobbies. She loved building and upgrading gaming computers and enjoyed playing games with friends across the country. She also enjoyed collecting a wide variety of items, including pins, tins, comics, vintage video games, CDs, vinyl records, books, backpacks, figurines, manga, anime and so much more.
A gifted and creative artist, Amanda expressed herself through writing, painting, digital art, drawing, sketching, and sewing. She created patchwork quilts, clothing, and handmade gifts for friends and family. Her admiration for art included favorites such as Leonardo da Vinci, while also sharing an appreciation for Monet with her father. Her talent was recognized early, with her poetry included in a nationally published high school anthology and her self-portrait featured in a state art competition.
Amanda developed a love of reading at a very young age, often carrying a children’s dictionary while still in daycare and preferring conversation with adults instead of playing with children her age. This love grew into an extensive personal book collection.
She also loved tattoos and shared a meaningful bond with her father through them. At age 16, they got matching tattoos inspired by the song “You Are My Sunshine,” [Amanda], “My Only Sunshine” [Dad] a song they sang together every night at bedtime during her childhood. She continued to express herself with more tattoos as she got older.
Amanda Rose will be deeply missed by her dad. Amanda is the love of his life, she and her dad were very close and spoke every day and spent as much time together as they could.
Amanda was a Daddy’s Girl from the moment she was born and did everything with her dad. Going on vacations together all over the country including Hawaii, California, San Francisco, Las Vegas and the Florida Keys to visit Ernest Hemingway’s home and learning about his six toed cat’s ancestors who still lived on his property and other fun and interesting places.
Her dad made sure wherever they went was a learning experience for her including culture, nature, animals geography, people and everything in between. A favorite habit during their travels was to people watch and determine where travelers were from by the language they spoke. Amanda loved listening and watching music, movies, t.v. and streaming programs together, going to concerts and to the lake on their boat.
Amanda was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jerry and Shirley White; her aunt Rosie Buckley; and her aunt and uncle, Miles and Ladonna Allard.
She is survived by her loving father, Michael White, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, grandparents, siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She also leaves behind her best friend and roommate, Kris Mautz.
Amanda will be deeply missed and forever loved.
