Anthony (Tony) Kerzman, 98, Garrison died May 27th at Garrison Memorial Hospital. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday at 10:30 am at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison. A rosary will be said on Friday at 7:00 pm at the church. Burial will be at St. Nicholas Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday from noon to 6 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.
Tony was born May 1, 1915 to Anton and Josephine (Trost) Kerzmann at the farmstead west of Garrison. He attended school in Garrison, Parshall and Blackwater Township as he moved with the family. In February 1941, he married Hattie (Lanz) at Garrison. Together they raised their six children on a farm west of Garrison. Tony also did custom combining and spraying, worked construction and drove bus for White Shield School for several years. He also found pride in inventing and reinventing machinery for his needs and for his neighbors. In 1975, Tony and Hattie moved into Garrison. The Kerzman's always welcomed family and acquaintances into their home with hospitality. Hattie died in January 1981.
In July 1983 Tony married Rose Walter Schmidt in Garrison. Tony continued to do some odd jobs in the area and they did some traveling, but mostly spent time with family and friends visiting and playing cards. Tony loved telling everyone who would listen about life in the depression and early farming practices. Rose died in June 2010 at age 99.
Left to mourn Tony's passing are his six children, Myron Kerzman, Minot, Bernadine (Larry) Ellwein, Garrison, Phyllis (Craig) Cumings, Pisgah Forest, NC, Robert (Selma) Kerzman, Bismarck, Charles (Becky) Kerzman, Wheatland WY, and Tom (Nancy) Kerzman, Grand Forks; 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 3 great, great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his step children Hildegard (Steven) Bachmeier and Donna Mae Olson, both of Mandan, Lorraine (Bill) Stutzman, Hanover, Ill., and Connie (Doug) Livengood, Mount Carroll, Ill. George (Roberta) Schmidt, Sumner, Wash., Leonard Schmidt, Elma, Wash., Daniel (Marlene) Schmidt, Tacoma, Wash., and Jerald Schmidt, Mandan; step-daughter-in-law, Kathy Schmidt, Shannon, Ill.; 43 step grandchildren, 107 step great grandchildren, and 79 step great great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents Josephine and Anton, his wives Hattie and Rose, one infant grandson Jeremy, two brothers, Raymond and Kenneth, one sister Cecelia, and his step-son Edward Schmidt.
