Obituary

Arthur F. Forsman, 86, Garrison and Roseglen, passed away peacefully into eternal life on February 1, 2012 in a Detroit Lakes, MN hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4th, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30 am until the time of services at the church.

Arthur was born April 14, 1925 in Roseglen, North Dakota, the youngest child of John and Marie (From) Forsman. He grew up on the family farm and attended Hiddenwood School. Along with working on the family farm, he helped build the spillway at Lake Susie in McLean County, and worked with a contractor to help build basements and foundations for those who had to move during the construction of Lake Sakakawea. He met Vivian Johnson in 1943, and they were married at Lucky Mound Church of Parshall on November 17, 1949. They farmed near his family homestead north of Roseglen until 1994, when they moved to Garrison. They had two daughters, Karen (Cape) and Kathy (Eberle).

Art was known in the community for his many skills, including that of carpentry, plumbing, and auto mechanics. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those who needed it. He could fix almost everything! He spent many years working with the Makoti Threshers Association, and helped build the sod house at Hiddenwood Lake near Makoti. He was an avid horseshoe player and had a collection of trophies from the many tournaments he played. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison, North Dakota. In December 2011 Art and Vivian moved to Detroit Lakes, MN to be closer to family.

Arthur is survived by his wife Vivian; daughter Karen (Frank) Cape of Green Bay, WI; daughter Kathryn (Ronald) Eberle of Detroit Lakes, MN; grandchildren Ashleigh (Nick) Gilson of Green Bay, WI; Erin Cape, Independence, MO; Timothy Cape, Milwaukee, WI; Daniel Cape, Cedarville, OH; Kristen Cape, Green Bay, WI; Sherman Eberle and Alice Eberle, Detroit Lakes, MN. The first great-grandchild is due to be born any day now.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers and sisters, Dagmar, Dagney, Deborah, Daisy, Ruth, Anton, Bennie, Gunnar, Walter, and Arnold.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sunnyside Care Center and St. Mary's Innovis Hospital for the loving care they provided.
