Arthur "Art" Weishaar, 95, Benedict, died on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at a Minot hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 pm at the Church of God in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from Noon to 7 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.

Arthur "Art" Weishaar was born November 1, 1917 to John & Elizabeth (Ackerman) Weishaar. He was the second oldest in a family of 7 boys and 4 girls. After his education in the Coleharbor area, Art joined the CCC and served for several years working on the many projects in the area. After his discharge, Art met the love of his life, Elsie Herrmann. They were joined in marriage on January 9, 1941. They made their home in the Coleharbor area later relocating to their current farm south of Benedict. To this union, two children were born, Arlo and Sharlene.

Art was a member of the Garrison Bible Church and believed in keeping the Sabbath holy. Sundays were spent going to church and then as a day of rest usually visiting with family & friends not working in the fields. He most recently attended the Church of God in Garrison. He was always ready for a good game of Horseshoes, Don't Go Home Mad, Kismet or Uno. Sharing stories or taking a horseback ride with the grandchildren was also a popular Sunday activity. Art also liked to watch a good rodeo and was fortunate to be able to see all of his great grandchildren participate in some events. You could tell he was very proud of that.

Art was a hardworking man who farmed and ranched his entire life. He milked cows and raised beef cattle along with farming small grains. He enjoyed going to auction sales or finding that good deal on something. You could usually find him at Northern Livestock on Wednesday for the cattle sale or Saturday for the monthly horse sale. Pie & coffee in the restaurant or a meal at Schatz Crossroad Truck Stop after the sale was a usual routine.

In his later years when he retired from farming, Art devoted his time to making sure Elsie and the many farm cats and dogs were taken care of. There was always a treat waiting for them when they made their daily visit to his door.

Art touched many lives with his kindness and ability to talk. He could hold a conversation with anybody, even with someone he just met and you would have thought they were lifelong friends. The twinkle he got in his eye when he was about to pull a prank on somebody will never be forgotten. He will truly be missed by all who knew & loved him.

Surviving family includes his wife of 72 years, Elsie, son, Arlo (Velma)Weishaar, Benedict; daughter Sharlene (Leonard) Krantz, Underwood; brothers Irvin (Ella) Weishaar, Berthold (Alice) Weishaar; sisters, Alma Schumaier, Irene Krebsbach, Esther Vitko and Hulda Mehlhoff; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Blanche Weishaar; and many nieces & nephews, and 22 cats.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters-in-law, Adolph (Estella), Willie (Rena), Albert (Ruby), and John; sisters, Alma grandson Brian Keith Krantz, brothers-in-law, John Schumaier, Joe Vitko, Melvin Mehlhoff, and Clarence Krebsbach.
