Obituary

B. Loretta Westmiller, 99, Garrison, died Thursday, Nov. 17 at a Garrison hospital. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 am at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison. A rosary will be said on Monday beginning at 7:00 pm. Burial will be at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.

Loretta was born December 9, 1911 at Isabell, SD to M. Harry and Emma (Olson) Gilfoy. She attended St. Nicholas School for 8 eights and graduated from Garrison High School in 1931. She continued her education in Minot, ND and received a teaching certificate from Minot Teachers College. She taught country schools in McLean and Burleigh Counties. She later attended Bismarck Business College and upon completion, managed her dad's Gamble store in Underwood, ND.

Loretta married Raymond Westmiller on August 10, 1938 and they made their home in Garrison. While living in Garrison, Loretta was very active. She joined the Lamplighters Senior Citizens in 1970 and was treasurer for a number of years as well as secretary from 1974 to 1975. She was the oldest original member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and belonged to St. Ann's Altar Society, Garrison Hospital Auxiliary, the Red Hatters, and the bridge club. In her later years, Loretta was a volunteer for the nursing home in Garrison. As if she wasn't busy enough, Loretta also found time to tour every state in the United States and Hawaii.

Loretta is survived by one daughter, Colleen (Dean) Kinsella, Saginaw, MI, one son, Ronald Westmiller, Brooklyn Center, MN; grandchildren, Michael Kinsella, Kathryn (Jamie) Entwistle; great grandchildren, Cheyanne, Shane, Andrew, and Dean.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, parents, brothers and a sister.
