Obituary
Barbara "Barb" Folden, 66, Ryder, died Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at her home. Funeral services will held on Saturday at 2:00 pm at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ryder. Burial will be at the Ryder Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 9am to 8pm at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.
Barbara Ann Folden was born December 3, 1946 to Jacob and Clara (Ortman) Bohlender and was raised on a farm north of Benedict. She married Ardell Folden on September 26, 1967 and they made their home in Ryder.
Barb started working for Fred Maercklein at Maercklein Insurance Agency in Minot while attending college. She continued working at Maercklein's Insurance until starting her own tax and bookkeeping business out of her home in Ryder in the early 1990's. Barb was also the Ryder City Auditor for 32 years; as well as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Ryder-Makoti Rural Fire Protection District for 23 years. Barb served both capacities diligently until failing eyesight forced her to give up both positions in the early part of 2012.
Perhaps Barb's greatest legacy will be the role she played as babysitter. During the years her children were growing up and for years afterward, she thoroughly enjoyed her role as the neighborhood babysitter and seemed to be everyone's "Mom".
In her "spare time", Barb and Ardell enjoyed spending time staying in their camper at the various threshing shows that they traveled to. Barb also loved to sew. She sewed countless dresses, many of which went to her granddaughters.
Barb is survived by her Husband, Ardell, Ryder; sons, Paul (Lonna) Folden, Garrison, Roger Folden (Beth Hall), Ryder; grandchildren, Danielle (Matthew) Pavlick, Minot, Blane (Jessica) Folden, Minot, Katie Folden, Garrison, Ashley (Mike Kahl) Folden, Garrison, Courtney Folden, Garrison, Blake Folden, Ryder, Jordan Hall, Minot, Kamara Hall, Minot; great grandchildren, Alexis and Emma Pavlick, Minot; and several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Clara Bohlender, brother, Marvin Bohlender, and sister, Linda Dockter .
