Obituary

Bernice Beierle, 91 of Garrison, died Monday, May 18, 2015 at the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, May 22nd from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home.

Bernice Elaine Fenley was born August 12, 1923 in Brandon, MN to George and May (Larson) Fenley. The family moved to Plaza, ND in 1925 and Washburn, ND in 1929 where she graduated from high school in 1941. She married Albert Beierle in 1943 in San Francisco. Bernice and Albert made their home in Garrison, ND, where they raised their five children.

She worked at the Kirchen Agency for a number of years and later at Stephens Lumber Co., which was owned and operated by the Beierle family.

Bernice was a member of the Camp Fire Girls where she earned their highest award in vocal music. She sang in the church choir and for many weddings and funerals in Garrison. She taught Sunday school and Bible school at First Congregational Church for several years.
She loved to knit and crochet and made many beautiful afghans for her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Roy (Darlene) Beierle of Kingston, TX and Richard Beierle of Hampton, VA; daughter-in-law Fran Beierle of Garrison; son-in-law Frank Penrod of Kemmerer, WY; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert, sons Allen and John, daughter Jo Marie "Jodi" Penrod, her parents, and three sisters.
