Bernice Therese Walsh , 91, passed away peacefully in her home in Bismarck, ND December 31, 2012. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison, ND on Monday January 7, 2013 at 2PM. Burial will be at the Garrison City Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday, January 6th from 1 – 7 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison, ND.

Bernice was born September 19, 1921 on the family farmstead near Makoti, ND to Edward and Therese (Janz) Schenfisch. As a young girl, she attended Mountrail Consolidated School near the family farm through the eighth grade. She stayed in Makoti to attend high school and was graduated in 1940.

Bernice attended Minot State College and was a graduate of Trinity School of Nursing in Minot, ND. While in training, she joined the U.S Cadet Nurse Corps program and worked in the U.S. Marine Hospital in Seattle, Washington during World War II.
Bernice was an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and held offices in the WELCA Ladies group. She was a member of the Crystallite Homemaker's Club and the Buttons and Bows square dance club.

Bernice was a devoted Christian and was involved with many different church activities. She really enjoyed church quilting for World Relief, crocheting, and making prayer shawls for the needy. She also took part in many different activities in the Garrison and Makoti communities and helped at Camp of the Cross.

She married Robert D. Walsh from Max, ND November 13, 1949 in Minot, ND. They farmed and ranched north of Garrison until 1979, then built a new home east of Garrison. Robert passed away in 1993 after 43 years of marriage.

Bernice moved to Bismarck in September 2012 to be closer to her family. During her short time in Bismarck, she became friends with many of the people and staff at Touchmark and attended devotions on a regular basis. Bernice touched the lives of many people putting everyone before herself. Although Bernice was soft spoken and a very caring and giving person, she was and always will be the matriarch of the Walsh Family and will be greatly missed by all who came to know her.

Bernice is survived by her sons Dale (Darlene) Walsh, Bismarck, ND, Duane (Dianne) Walsh, Center, ND, David Walsh, Naples, FL, Daughter-in-law Colleen Walsh, Santee, CA, Brothers Oswald Schenfisch, Minot, ND, Wilmar (Mary Ann) Schenfisch and Orlan (Sharon) Schenfisch, Makoti, ND, 11 grandchildren, Preston (Kelly)Walsh, Lindsey (David) Phillips, Justin (Chelsey) Walsh, Amy (Lucas) Asche, Heather Walsh, Jessica Madonia, Melissa (Shawn) Regan, Dustin McGarvey, Cory McGarvey, Andrew McGarvey, Shae McGarvey, 15 great-grandchildren, special friend Latrisha Walsh and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Edward and Therese Schenfisch, her brother Clarence Schenfisch, her husband Robert Walsh, and her son Dennis Walsh.
