Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.
Bert was born November 19, 1932 to John and Elizabeth (Ackerman) Weishaar right on the Weishaar farm. He was the youngest in a family of 7 boys and 4 girls. He was educated at a country school a few miles away from the Weishaar farm through the 8th grade and then quit school to help his dad farm.
Bert met the love of his life, Alice Smebak , at a roller-skating rink in Minot. They were joined in marriage on November 16, 1958 at Zion Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home on the family farm south of Benedict where he was born. To this union, three children were born; Rick, Lori, and Scott.
Bert was a hard working man who was always on the move. He milked cows and farmed small grains. He also took pride in a business he started: "Bert's Meat Processing and Sausage Making". In later years when he retired from farming, he continued his meat processing business and helped his daughter with her art business at craft shows and street fairs. He always enjoyed meeting new people and was an excellent salesman.
Bert loved gardening and yardwork, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins baseball games, western movies, and Molly B's Polka Party. He loved his dogs throughout the years and had a special bond with each one. Bert was musically gifted and enjoyed playing his concertinas and piano all self-taught "by ear". He organized the "B-W Band' with family and friends playing at wedding dances and events for several years. He especially loved old time music.
Bert touched many lives with his kindness and sense of humor. He had the ability to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger and usually left them laughing or with a smile on their face. Bert loved the farm and said that during his time here on earth he always wanted to live on the farm. He was blessed to be able to do that. He will forever be missed by those who knew and loved him.
