Betty Ellen Iglehart, 86, of Garrison, a beacon of love and kindness, peacefully departed this world on April 21, 2026, surrounded by family at the Benedictine Living Center.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison, ND. Burial to follow at St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM on Friday, April 24, 2026, at. St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison, ND, with a Family and Friends Service beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Betty was born on August 27, 1939, in Hazen, ND, to Edward and Leontina Messmer, Betty's life was a testament to the enduring power of faith, family, and compassion.

Betty's early years in Halliday, ND, laid the foundation for a life steeped in learning and service. Graduating from Halliday High School in 1957 as valedictorian she nurtured a lifelong passion for education. Her commitment to learning was formalized when she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Minot State College in 1990. Betty cherished her role as a substitute teacher in local schools and found immense joy working as an activities aide at the Garrison Hospital until the age of 74, touching countless lives with her gentle spirit.

On May 30, 1959, Betty married Ronald Goetz in Halliday, ND. Together, they shared 28 beautiful years, raising three wonderful children: Michael (Pam) Goetz, Lisa (Brian) Nelson, and the late Bradley (Wanda) Goetz. After Ron's passing, Betty's resilience shone through as she completed her education and continued to nurture her family with grace and strength. On September 4, 1992, she found love again, marrying Jim Iglehart in Garrison, ND. Their union was a joyful journey, farming west of Garrison and traveling across all 50 states through the North Dakota Farmers Union.

Betty's life was enriched by her faith and dedication to her community. A devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, she also actively participated in the Garrison Senior Citizen Center and the ND Farmers Union. Betty thoroughly enjoyed being a longtime volunteer for the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation. Her unwavering faith and empathy guided her through life's challenges, earning her the love and respect of all who knew her. Betty had an extraordinary gift for seeing the good in people, never uttering an unkind word.

Betty found immense joy in life's simple pleasures, from attending her family's sporting events to participating in church programs. Her travels with Jim were a highlight, creating cherished memories across the nation.

Family was the cornerstone of Betty's life. She is survived by her beloved husband, Jim, and a large, loving family, including her children Michael, Lisa, her stepchildren JoAnn Iglehart, Tom Iglehart, Sue (Chip) Steckler, Vince Iglehart, Mike (Connie) Iglehart, Dan Iglehart, Jean (Scott) Graeber, and Steve (Kacie) Iglehart. Her daughters-in-law Wanda Goetz, Debbie Iglehart, sister-in-law Marsha Messmer, brother-in-law Allen (Marilyn) Goetz, sister-in-law Janice Goetz, sister-in-law Marlene Iglehart, and brother-in-law Kai Hunt. Betty also leaves behind 30 adoring grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, who will continue to carry her legacy of love and kindness.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, James; her cherished sons, Bradly Goetz and Joe Iglehart; and her precious granddaughter, Anita Jo Ackerman.
