Obituary

Beverly (Bev) Jean Boger, 87, Garrison, passed away early Saturday morning on December 30, 2017 while in the Garrison Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran church in Garrison at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan on Friday at 2:00 pm.
Bev was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Bev will be laid to rest at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery alongside her husband William who passed away in March of 2017.
Bev was born November 27, 1930 in Wilton, North Dakota to George H. Benedict and Beatrice (McGraw) Benedict. She was raised in Wilton, North Dakota with two sisters and three brothers, however, one of her brothers, Deverle, died in a tragic accident when he was just 12 years old. Bev often talked about her growing up years and how hard they worked. She also said there was always lots of love and plenty of food. She worked at the local café while attending high school in Wilton to help with the family finances. She graduated from high school in 1949 and moved to Bismarck, North Dakota. She was employed at the National Tea Company.
Bev met her future husband, William (Bill) Boger, at a farm dance somewhere between Wilton and Washburn, North Dakota. Bill and Bev were married in St. Paul's Lutheran church in Garrison, North Dakota on November 27, 1949 on the same day as Bev's 19th birthday. Bill and Bev recently celebrated 67 years of marriage. Bill passed away in March of 2017. Life was difficult for Bev after Bill's passing, as she missed him dearly. However, she was blessed with many caring and wonderful friends and family members who visited her often.
In addition to raising her children and caring for her family, Bev worked outside of the home almost her entire life. She worked at several different locations in Garrison, but spent the majority of her working years at the Garrison Memorial Hospital as a Nurses Aid caring for others. She retired from the hospital at age 77, after an incredible 42 years of service at the hospital.
One of Bev's greatest gifts to her family and friends was her amazing cooking and baking skills. Her grandchildren lived for the day when they could go to 'grandma's' and eat her cinnamon rolls, cookies, kuchen, desserts or her one of a kind peach pie. Everyone loved the stuffing she made at Thanksgiving – it was the highlight of every Thanksgiving meal. She also loved to garden and the food she preserved from her garden was always the best! No one could garden like Bev! Anyone who knew Bev couldn't wait to taste her cooking! Bev also enjoyed embroidery and made sure each of her grandchildren had some of her embroidered towels or pillowcases. Bev had energy to spare – sitting still was not her thing!
Bev was preceeded in death by her husband; William Boger, her parents; George H. and Beatrice (McGraw) Benedict, her brothers; Deverle, Jim and George (Bolly) Benedict and sisters Lavonne Jensen and Mary Lou Benedict, her daughter-in-law; Tammy Boger and granddaughter; Kamela Boger, her father-in-law and mother-in-law; Daniel and Wilhelmina Boger, her brothers-in-law; Elmer Boger, Alvin Boger, Reuben Boger, Leo Boger, Jerome Bauer and Vernon Jensen, and her sisters-in-law; Emma Halquist, Josephine Boger, Dorothy Boger, Doris Boger and Jane Benedict.
