Bonnie J. Yellow Bear, 61, Bismarck, formerly of White Shield, beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed into the spirit world on Thursday, July 30 2015 at 2:47 am at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck, ND. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 3, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Ralph Wells Jr. Memorial Complex in White Shield. Wake services will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at 5:00 pm at the complex.
Bonnie J. Yellow Bear was born on April 1, 1954 in Garrison, ND to Benedict and Ramona (Baker) Heart. She was given the Indian name "Chief Woman In The House" by her Grandpa Frank Heart. Bonnie was raised in Buffalo Rock and attended Flandreau Indian School. She received her AA in Business Administration and Accounting from the Fort Berthold Community College. She was also a certified CNA. She grew up on her parents' ranch and assisted in raising pigs, chickens, milk cows and horses. Bonnie and Elaine White Bear were the best ultimate bareback riders in the Buffalo Rock area in the younger years. Bonnie was once married to David "Alley" White Tail and from this union they had 4 children, Brian, Richard, Bonita Rose, and Anson. She later married Sybert Yellow Bear. From this union she gained 4 children, Raymond, Glenn, Eva, and Paula.
Bonnie was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in White Shield and also a member of the Dripping Dirt Awaxxi Clan on her mother's side. She was a lifetime member of the Joseph Young Hawk/Elmer Bear Post 253 American Legion Auxiliary of White Shield.
Bonnie was a dedicated homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to all who knew her. She worked at the White Shield School as a Head Cook and everyone who knew her loved her cooking. Later on she went to work for the Fort Berthold Housing Authority and she left employment due to 2 car accidents which affected her back. After recouping, she then went to work for the White Shield Field Clinic and worked there for several years and at the same time, she bartended at the Roseglen Bar. She also worked at the 4 Bears Casino as a slot attendant in the evenings. Due to declining health conditions she resigned from her jobs at the clinic and 4 Bears Casino.
One of her favorite pastimes was traveling and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. One of whom is her namesake, "Spring Woman June". Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy and she loved them all dearly. Bonnie was a very generous woman and shared her wealth with many people and organizations.
Bonnie is survived by her special friend, Grayden Bear; sons, Brian (Lisa), Richard (Kathy), Anson; step children, Raymond (Barbara) Yellow Bear, Paula Yellow Bear, David aka "Spike" White Tail; sisters, Martha (Wayne) Hunter, Hazel (Dale) Heart, Josephine; brothers, Edmund, Bently (Clarice), Kermit, Nelson, and Hubert (Renae) Heart; grandchildren, Brian White Tail Jr., Kaleb and Louis, Tashena, Rosemaie, Dave Allen, Heather, Zane, Alyssa, Aliegha, McKenzie, Nicole, Dusty, Eli, Elliot, Elizabeth, Sybert, Elk Dancing Eagle, Good Earth Woman, Whirlwind Bull, Bearstar, Brings Good Woman, Red Rock, Waylon, Sandy, Cory, and Rueben; adopted, granddaughter, Hunter Old Elk; great grandchildren, Nahtaleah, Michael, Kashlynn, Spring Woman June, and Kason.
She is welcomed in the Spirit World by her parents, paternal and maternal grandparents, daughter, Bonita Rose, sisters, Sawahu, Edna Sue, Reba Jean, brother, Robert, and stepchildren, twins, Michael and Michelle White Tail.
