Brooke Nicole Schroeder, age 18, died on Sunday, January 8, 2017, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident near Valley City, ND. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Max High School Gymnasium at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Max. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm at the church.

Brooke was born April 3, 1998 in Minot, ND to Duane and Lynae (Zenz) Schroeder. She was raised in Max and graduated from Max High School in 2016. She was currently attending NDSU in Fargo. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Max.
Brooke was a very gifted young lady, having many interests and talents. In high school she was involved in FFA, band, student council, basketball, M-club, honor society, yearbook committee, and drama. She was a natural born leader. She lobbied to have school dances during her 5th and 6th grade year which were well attended. She was an officer for many of the groups she was engaged in and was her class Valedictorian. She volunteered during the summer for the Camp of The Cross bible school held in Max each year.

This past summer she headed to Camp Metigoshe to be a camp counselor where she enjoyed working with all the campers. This helped to renew her faith in God and she met many new friends in her fellow counselors.

Brooke truly loved spending time with her friends and family. We enjoyed many family vacations. Summertime brought car shows which she enjoyed, especially Devils Run show in Devils Lake. She was so excited in 2015 when her dad let her drive one of the vehicles home from Devils Lake.

While in FFA she excelled above and beyond. She helped win several chapter events and even won in individual events. She enjoyed meeting kids from all over the state and had so many friends that were dear to her from her FFA experience. In 2015 her parliamentary procedure team took first in state and they won a trip to Louisville, Kentucky in October. Brooke "allowed" her mom to go with her and this turned out to be a trip that was treasured by both.

Brooke's first love was dance with her sister Alex. She started dancing at the age of 4 and continued all through high school at Brick Studio in Minot. They danced on both the recreational and competitive dance teams. The last 2 years Brooke performed a solo at the competitions and was a truly beautiful dancer. She was a great role model to her sister Alex and many young dancers who saw what hard work and perseverance could do.

She also loved animals….all animals. She spent many days on her Grandma's horses when she was younger and had dogs and cats surrounding her at home.

A new found interest for Brooke was fitness and she walked many mornings to the Wellness Center on campus to attend a class or just lift weights. She also played on an intramural basketball team with her brother at NDSU which she enjoyed.

Brooke will be missed immensely by her dad, mom, brother and sister. She adored her younger sister Alex and looked up to big brother Colton, always tagging along with him when she was younger. Brooke was the kind of person who truly lit up a room when she entered. Her smile and laugh were contagious. She was a beautiful soul inside and out. She was our energizer bunny who kept going and going and going. If anyone was going to strike a crazy pose in a group photo it would be Brooke! She was so loved and admired by many, and her heart, desire, and memory will last forever. Our hearts are truly broken.

Brooke is survived by her parents, Duane and Lynae Schroeder; brother, Colton; sister, Alex, all of Max; boyfriend Ben Helland; grandmother Edna Zenz of Minot; grandparents Dennis and Marlene Schroeder of Max; aunts and uncles Steven (Charmaine) Schroeder of Tempe, AZ; Michael Schroeder of Bountiful, UT; Joni (Sheldon) Haner, Max; John (Lorri) Zenz, Watford City; Peggy (Ron) Kostenko, Minot; Greg (Kathy) Zenz, Max; Michelle (Rick) Demchuk, Minot and cousins Jessica Guthrie, Tyler Schroeder, Lorissa Schroeder, Kaitlyn Schroeder, Lindsey Johnson, Drew Haner, Megan Enget, Jeanna Zenz, Carter Zenz, Remington Kostenko, Rebecca Kostenko, Ryan Kostenko, Christopher Zenz, Stephanie Zenz, Michael Zenz, Eric Demchuk, and Aimee Demchuk, and many special friends, family, teachers, and especially the FFA chapters.
