Burnel D. "Bernie" Fix, 86, of Garrison, passed away on April 27, 2024, in Garrison, ND.

A celebration of life will be held May 10, 2024, at Totten Trail Event Arena from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.

Bernie was born November 21, 1937, in Garrison ND to Joseph and Edna (Gohl) Fix. He grew up on a farm southwest of Emmet ND along the Missouri River bottom, hunting, fishing, raising cattle and horses. He married Dorothy Meisch in 1964 and they later divorced in 1994. From this union 3 daughters were born.

Bernie worked at Garrison Ready-Mix and later owned and operated Fix Brothers Meats with his brother Glen until 1987. He also worked at the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison and retired in 1999.

He was passionate about hunting and enjoyed collecting guns. In his younger years, he played guitar, and sang with his brother Glen. He also played accordion, both of which he played by ear.

In 2000, Bernie met his partner in crime, Judy Zenz, and they were together until his death. They lived in rural Max ND and raised horses for several years. He also enjoyed playing darts with family and friends, even won a few championships.

Bernie is survived by Judy Zenz, his three daughters, Denette Schrom, Mandan; Denise (Tim) Krebsbach, Coleharbor; Andrea (Dave) Lovering Woodstock, GA; and Judy's son Byron (Nancy) Knox, Minot ND. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Jacob Krebsbach, Katie (Pat) Krueger, Tyler Schrom, and Morgan Schrom, two great grandchildren, his sister Betty Loch, Garrison, Sister-in-law, Joyce Fix, Bismarck, and several nieces, and nephews.

Bernie is preceded in death by his father and mother, brother Glen, and one infant brother.
