Carl Martin, of Garrison, passed away on August 14, 2024, at his home.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.

Carl Joseph Martin was born in Bottineau, North Dakota on July 10, 1947. He was the son of Bill and Marie Martin. Carl attended school in Crary, North Dakota. And graduated in 1966. He then attended UND in Grand Forks, North Dakota and received his B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1970. Carl was employed by the Federal Highway Administration from 1970-1976. He moved to Ames, lowa in 1972. While in lowa, Carl was accepted into law school. He graduated with a law degree at the University of lowa. He then moved to Garrison, ND and he worked for John Tuntland as an attorney. During his years in Garrison, Carl worked as an appraiser for the Army Corp of Engineers and as an engineer for the North Dakota Department of Transportation. He also worked as a tax preparer.

Carl married Helen (Garcia) in 1983. Carl and Helen lived together in Garrison. They bought a house in 1987, and then had their son, Cameron Martin in 1988. They all lived together with Helen's first born child, Chad Garcia. They had their daughter, Maria Martin in 1992. Carl loved reading books and spending time with his family. He was so proud of all of his children. Carl was incredibly smart and funny. He loved telling stories about all of the things he had done in his life.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; son, Cameron; parents, William and Marie Martin; and sister, Karen Kocurek.

He is survived by his children, Chad Garcia and Maria Martin; grandchildren,Evan and Ryker Garcia, and Mercedes Anderson; great grandson,Kaelum Garcia; brothers, Richard and Kalvin (Angela) Martin and brother-in-law, Wayne Kocurek and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
