Carol E. Reif, 82, Garrison, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, December 12, 2019 while in the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva. Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 20, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison. Burial will be in the Spring at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Carol was born November 29, 1937 in Aitken, MN, the daughter of William and Emily (Johnson) Otto Sr. She was the 8th child born of 10. She was raised and educated at the Traux Trear Mine south of Velva.
She married Gerald Reif on July 3, 1978 in Minot, ND. Carol and Gerald traveled to many states in the U.S. for his work.
Carol loved sewing for her daughters and granddaughter. She also quilted, cross stitched, embroidered and played a mean game of pinochle. She played the base guitar for the Country Three Band and numerous other bands around North Dakota.
Carol is survived by her daughters, Diana Strachen, Janet (Mike Mertz) Herman, and Deanna (Randy) Hunter; granddaughter, Emily Schiele; grandson, Dalton Hunter, all of Karlsruhe, ND; sister, Joyce Teigan; brother-in-law, Richard (Susan) Reif; sisters-in-law, Janet Reif and Helen Otto; Rita (Al) Moldren; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, great great great nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Peggy Sue.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald, parents, sisters, Wanda Brevig, Julia Sandberg, Sharon Klimpel, brothers, William Jr., Gordon, Albert, Orville and Kenneth, sisters-in-law, Marie Otto, Lilly Otto, Renae Caylar, Sharon Kennedy, brothers-in-law, Albert Brevig, Milo Sandberg, Dean Teigan, Melvin Klimpel, Roger Reif, son-in-law, Raymond Strachen, and several nieces and nephews.
