Clara Giese, 99, Garrison, formerly of Max, died on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 5, at 2:00 pm at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Max. Burial will be in the spring at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Minot.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9 to 6 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.

Clara was born August 12, 1917 on the family farm nine miles southeast of Max. She was baptized on September 2, 1917 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Max and confirmed on July 13, 1933.
Clara married Herbert Giese on February 14, 1942 at Peace Lutheran Church in Max. Following their marriage they farmed in the Max area until retiring in 1977, when they moved to the Totten Trail Cabin site. Clara was a hard worker all her life, helping with all aspects of their farming operations.

Clara was a member of the LWML for many years at St. Matthew's Church, where she was a lifelong member. She was also a 4-H leader for 5 years. Her hobbies included sewing quilts and painting. She was also a wonderful cook and had a tremendous green thumb. Clara had a strong faith and lived her life in a very simple way; "Lord, I shall go the way thou leadeth me."

Clara is survived by her daughter, LaVera (James) Cooke, Garrison, ND; son, LeRoy (Margaret) Giese, Max, ND; grandchildren, Greta (Jerry) Hoalt, Waterloo, IA, Bekki (Brad) Martin, Waverly, IA, Melody (Brian) Warren, Warner Robins, GA, Scott (Sherri) Cooke, Dickinson, ND; great grandchildren, Amber, Alexandria "Lucy", Samantha, Emily, Timothie, Terrin, and Sean; brother, Wilbert Schmidt, Bandon, OR; sister, Lois Schmeichel, Minot, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Herbert, and three sisters, Adeline Berg, Elna Huettl, and Agnes Polsfut.
