Cleora Beattie, 90, Bismarck, formerly of Garrison and Emmet, died Thursday, October 20 at a Bismarck nursing home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 am at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison. A rosary will be said on Wednesday at 7:00 pm at the church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 6 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.
Cleora was born April 20, 1921 in Ritzville, WA to William and Elzora (Reed) Johnson. She was raised and educated in Montana, graduating from Bozeman High School. During the early years, Cleora waitressed at the Canyon Hotel in Yellowstone, MT and also worked as a cashier at the Gardner Theatre in Gardner, MT where she met Leo. She married Leo J. Beattie on October 10th, 1940 in Bozeman, MT. They lived in Spokane, WA for several years before moving to Garrison in 1947. They then moved to a farm in the Emmet area in 1962 where they resided until 1984. In 1984, she moved into Garrison until moving to Bismarck in 2005.
Cleora enjoyed sewing and knitting, but her favorite hobby was china painting. She was also a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and St. Ann's Altar Society.
Cleora is survived by her sons, Rob (Suzy) of Grand Forks, ND, and Lee of Savage, MN; 7 daughters, Camie (Andy) Anderson of Kenmore, WA, Lolita (Tom) Koppinger of Fargo, ND, Lonie Lake of Tempe, AZ, Colette (Jim) Kubinski of Kenilworth, IL, Leora (Dirk) Bauer of Bismarck, Carrie (Roger) Bendickson of Garrison, and Joy (Rick)Weinand of Farmington, MN; 24 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; grandson, Michael Stalcup; and two brothers, Pete and Veryl Johnson.
