Cletus Schreiner, 81, Garrison ND, died Saturday, February 8, 2014 in a Bismarck hospital.

Cletus Arthur Schreiner was born February 13, 1932 in Endres, ND to Nicholas J. & Aurelia (Ulrich) Schreiner. He was raised and educated in the Endres and Garrison areas. At the age of 12 he moved to the Cando/Leeds area to live with two uncles to help on their farm. Upon returning home he went to work for McLean Dairy, the Garrison Bakery, and started farming with his dad. He enlisted in the Marines in 1951 during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and returned to farming and construction work.

On October 30, 1955 he married Gertrude Schlenker at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison where they continue to be members. They made their home in Garrison where they raised their 5 children.

Cletus enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, cooking, Fire Dept. activities, playing cards and spending time with his family.

Cletus was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Trustee of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison for over 20 years, Hugh P. Minehan Post 49, and has been active in the Garrison Fire Dept. since 1967 either as a firefighter or honorary member.

Cletus is survived by wife, Gertrude, of 58 years. Sons

Daughters Becky (Charly) Kerzman of Wheatland, Wyo and children Jeb of Wheatland, Wyo; Josh (Marianne) of Cheyenne, Wyo. Lori (Darryl) Sayler of Minot, ND and children Amy (TJ) Clouse and Blake of Minot, ND; Jake of Max, ND. Jodi (Brian) Bendickson of Garrison, ND and children Chelsea of Moorhead, MN; Alex and Clay of Garrison, ND.
Brother Don (Margie) of Garrison, ND. Sisters Pat Schumaier of Minot, ND; Marguerite (Robert) Kroeplin of Hillsboro, OR; Jackie (Elmer) Flath of Lakewood, CO. Sister-in-law Rosalee Schreiner of Garrison, ND. Brothers-in-law Dennis (Ellie) Schlenker of Berthoud, CO; Art (Lois) Schlenker of Anoka, MN. Sisters-in-law Virginia (Ted) Schock of Grand Forks, ND; Gladys Jamtgaard of Wheatland, Wyo; Phyllis Duarte of Carmichael, CA; and Linda Schlenker of Hazen, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cletus was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Ruben and Hulda (Hummel) Schlenker; brothers Glenn and Arnold; daughter-in-law, Paula; grandson, Jeremy Rustad; brothers-in-law Ruben Schumaier, Joe Duarte, Whitey Jamtgaard, and Howard Schlenker.

Mass of Christian Burial and a Celebration of Cletus' life will be held at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison, ND on February 13, 2014 @ 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery. Rosary will be held at St. Nicholas Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 7:00 p.m.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from Noon to 6 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be made the to ND Firefighters Museum in Garrison or to the donor's choice.
