Obituary

Curtis "Curt" Giffey, 26, Roseglen, died Sunday in a motor vehicle accident in Garrison. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 1 to 6 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison.

Curt was born September 27, 1990 in Minot, ND to Kelly and Colette (Behles) Giffey. He was raised on their farm east of Roseglen along with his sister, Emily, whom he was always looking out for even in her college years. He attended grade school at Bob Callies Elementary School in Garrison and later graduated from Garrison High School in 2009. He attended NDSU and then moved back to Roseglen to farm with his dad. While farming he also worked at several different jobs including the Blue Flint Ethanol Plant, Gooseneck Implement, Scheresky Ag, and was currently working at United Agronomy in Parshall. Curt met many people everywhere he worked and easily made friends with his coworkers. He thoroughly enjoyed farming, especially the time spent with his dad having great father/son conversations.

On April 23, 2015, Curt met the girl that he would fall in love with and was to be married to September 16, 2017. They were currently living on Curt's grandparents farm in Roseglen with their two dogs, Rocky and Slider. Jenna fell in love with Curt's blue eyes and infectious personality. It just seemed right from the beginning. Curt spoiling her also didn't hurt the cause! Though their dreams were cut short, their love will continue on and the bond they formed will never be gone.

Curt had many hobbies and interests and spent every free moment he could making sure he lived life to the fullest. During his high school years, he loved to play basketball and was adamant he and Jenna's children would one day play as well. He also enjoyed hunting, camping, and lake life, where he had many friends in the Douglas Bay area. Curt also liked to watch TV and movies, throwing out movie lines during conversations with family and friends. He didn't like going to Hobby Lobby with his mom, but he would watch the Hallmark channel with her. He loved to watch cooking shows, notably Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, which fueled his love for cooking. He and Jenna had a great system for who cooked on what nights or cooking together whenever they got the chance. Traveling was always a priority with Curt's family, a tradition he and Jenna planned to keep. He was a big Kansas Jayhawks fan and getting to a game with Jenna was something they had looked forward to. Soon after high school, Curt got into golf, and it soon became his favorite hobby. He waited all year to play in the Prairie Scramble at the Garrison Golf Course, the event literally becoming a holiday. Though he wasn't a professional singer, Curt loved music and made a point of singing, especially to Jenna, when the right song came on.

Of all the things that Curt enjoyed, family was always his top priority. He had a very special bond with his many cousins, sharing his wit in group texts to them. Because Christmas is spent with family, it was his favorite holiday. He loved ornaments and decorating, and put a lot of thought into the gifts he gave everyone. He kind of had a "go big or go home" mentality when it came to presents.

Though his loss has brought so much sadness, his life gave everyone more happiness than can ever be realized. His memory will never be forgotten.

Curt is survived by his fiancee, Jenna Nelson, Roseglen; parents, Kelly and Colette Giffey, Roseglen; sister, Emily (special friend Mason Bjerke)NDSU, Fargo; paternal grandparents, Ernie and Venetia Giffey, Garrison; aunts and uncles, Kyle (Sandy) Giffey, Kandis (Tracy) Horn, Kari (Jerry) Evenson, Brenda (Larry) Thurn, Cindy (Bill) Shultz, Berna (Larry) Pope, Clarence (Darci) Behles, Beverly (Todd) Ellwein, Bruce Behles, Carol (Pete) Fletcher, Carmen (Dave) Roedocker and Corey (Cyndie) Behles; numerous cousins; Jenna's parents, Steve and Debra Nelson; Jenna's brothers, Jake (Trina) Nelson and their children, Tucker and Tuf, and Jordan (Kate) Nelson and their children, Ethan, Kimber, Geneva, and Haile, and Curt and Jenna's dogs, Rocky and Slider.
