Darrel Fliginger, 77, Garrison, died on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at his apartment in Garrison. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 5th, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3 to 6 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.
Darrel was born May 1, 1940 in Garrison, ND to Wayne and Lydia (Buechler) Fliginger. He was raised and educated in Garrison, graduating from Garrison High School in 1958. He attended Minot State University for 2 years studying English and Business. He married Carole Newark on October 4, 1961 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison. They later later divorced. Carole died on December 5, 2009.
Darrel worked his entire life in the construction business, owning his own company from 1964 to 1974. He later worked on missile sites, power plants, and many other jobs, usually running a crane or heavy equipment. His work took him many places, including Kansas, Colorado, and Florida. In 2004, Darrel moved back to Garrison permanently and lived with his mother, Lydia until moving into the McLean Manor in 2012.
Darrel had many hobbies. He very much enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also like to bowl, golf and play pool, especially for money! Darrel had a gruff exterior, but once you got past the grumbling, he had a great sense of humor and enjoyed visiting and giving people a bad time.
Darrel is survived by his sons, Todd Fliginger, Minneapolis, MN, Troy Fliginger, Garrison, ND, Thane (Roxanne) Fliginger, Fargo, ND; daughter, Carleen (Russ) Gust, Minot, ND; grandchildren, Daysha Fliginger of Fargo, ND, Ryker, Claire, and Briggs Gust of Minot, ND, mother, Lydia Fliginger, Garrison, ND; sister, Faye (Glenn) Seidler, Garrison, ND; niece, Sundi (Brad) Lagge, and their children, Sarah, Paige, Emmit, and Grant, all of Garrison, ND; nephew, Spencer (Kerry) Seidler and their children, Zachary and Morgan, all of Garrison; step grandchildren, Megan Jenstead, and Nate (fiancee' Michaela Newago) Jenstead; step great grandchildren, Keagan Mahoney and Mari and Max Jenstead.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Fliginger, and two grandsons, Thans and Chase Fliginger.
