Darrell "Bud" Gene Karna, 77, of Ryder, ND, passed away on October 16, 2018 at Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck, ND. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 22 at 10:30am at the Ryder Community Center gymnasium. Burial will be at the Rosehill Cemetery, Ryder, following the service.
The son of Leo and Evelyn (Peterson) Karna, Bud was born August 27, 1941 in Minot, ND. He was raised on the family farm, which was homesteaded by his grandfather Matt Karna, where he called home for his whole life. Bud attended Rice Lake Township country schools and then Ryder High School, graduating in 1959. Following high school, he enlisted in the Army and was honorably discharged. On June 16, 1968 Bud married Faye Wilson at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Ryder, ND. They lived on the Karna family farm for 50 years and they were blessed with two daughters: Kellie and Kyann.
During his life he enjoyed farming, raising cattle, playing pool, and playing guitar, violin, & banjo. His musical talents were enjoyed by many through various local bands and picking & grinning in the living room. He served on the Ryder Housing Committee, Farmers Union Board, Ryder Credit Union Board and as the Rice Lake Township Clerk.
Bud is preceded in death by his parents, brother Dene Karna, sister-in-law Pearl (Guttormson) Karna, brother-in-law Roy Bjordahl and many other in-laws and cousins.
Bud is survived by his wife Faye; daughter Kellie (Tom) Erhardt, grandchildren Keaton and Kolby; daughter Kyann Karna, grandchildren Payton, Taya, Kayson; sister Wanda Bjordahl, nephew Byron (Tamae) and niece Leann (Evan); nephew Mickey (Mary) Karna, Chase (Lindsey), Cameron (Bridget), Caleb, Cade, and Chandler; niece Darlah (Mike) Rensch, Brandi, Nathan (Nilette) and numerous great-great nieces and nephews.
Memorials are preferred to Calvary Church, Ryder Historical Society, Ryder Community Club or the donor's choice.
