Dr. David L. MacDonald, 69, Coleharbor, died unexpectedly May 26th, 2012 at a Garrison Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from Noon to 7 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.
David was born Nov. 3rd, 1942 in Northallerton, Yorks, England, the first son of Jack and Audrey (Smith) MacDonald.
He was raised in Halifax, England and educated at Heath Grammar School. He graduated from the University of Birmingham Medical School where he attained his medical degree. Following graduation he served in the Royal Air Force.
David was an obstetrician/gynecologist for 30 years practicing in England, Winnipeg, Canada and Minot, ND. Notably, he was the first doctor in North Dakota to successfully perform in vitro fertilization where he conceived and delivered the first test tube baby. A life long teacher, he followed his medical career by instructing at Rasmussen College and the University of Mary in Bismarck. At the time of his death, he was a Senior Lecturer for Benedictine University, IL.
He resided in his dream home on Lake Audubon for the last 20 years. He was a passionate reader, superb scrabble player, enjoyed a lively debate and loved game night with his family.
His parents preceded David in death.
David is survived by his loving wife Denise and their children Lena (fiancé, Layne Sedevie); Ian, & Colin and children: Alistair (Becky) MacDonald, Missoula, Mt.; Jane MacDonald, Great Falls, Mt and Leah (Jamaal) Millsock, Lancaster, PA.; Timothy Ljunggren, Great Falls, Mt.; 8 grandchildren; Simon, Skye, Shea & Sarah Ljunggren, Kincaid & Josie MacDonald, J.J. and Jasmine; Brother Robert (Christina) MacDonald, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates niece Laura and nephew Craig MacDonald, United Kingdom.
He will be greatly missed by all, including his faithful companion, Earl.
