Obituary

David Sayler, 47, Pick City, formerly of Garrison, died Tuesday, August 30 at his home of a sudden heart attack. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday from Noon to 7 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.

David was born August 8, 1964 in Garrison, ND to Leonard "Shorty" and Estella (Mehlhoff) Sayler. He was raised in Garrison and received his education at Garrison High School. He attended college at NDSSS at Wahpeton where he received a degree in recreational engine mechanics.

He lived in Garrison for a few years and later moved to Pick City. David worked as a painter for many years for companies including Oxentenko, and Swanson and Youngdale, painting water towers for cities and power plants. He was a member of the Painters Local #1962. David worked as an ironworker for a number years and was a member of the Ironworkers Local #512. He also worked as a seismographer, flying to many states and job sites by helicopter. He most recently worked at Bayside Marine in Riverdale.

David had many hobbies which included his love to hunt, fish, and be outdoors. He was a very friendly person that always had time to visit. He was also a very talented person. He was very handy with all kinds of building construction and mechanic work, and recently bought a Harley Davidson that came in boxes, which he put together himself. He was a bit famous for his cooking as well which included "German Lasagna", and yes the secret ingredient was sauerkraut.

Kid had a wonderful smile and will be missed dearly by his family and friends. They find comfort knowing he will be with his dog and best buddy, Fuzzy.

David is survived by his mother, Estella Mehlhoff, Washburn; sister, Kathy (Tim) Forrest, Mandan, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard "Shorty" Sayler, grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.
