Obituary

Dorvan "Fred" Starr passed from this earthly life to his eternal home on July 28th, 2011 in a Bismarck, North Dakota hospital after a long illness. His brothers and daughter stayed by his side to the last hour with him. Wake services were held today at 5:00 p.m. at the Ralph Wells Memorial Complex. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 1st, 2011 at the Ralph Wells Memorial Complex in White Shield. Burial will be at the Arikara Congregational Cemetery, south of White Shield.
Dorvan "Fred" Starr was born to Phillip and Marvelle (Reed) Starr and Gilbert Perkins, Sr. in Chicago, Illinois on February 26th, 1968. He worked at Bismarck College doing maintenance for several years. He also had his own business in landscaping. While he was in the hospital, the nurses were always calling his name "Dorvan, Dorvan, Dorvan" repeatedly. So one day, he told the nurses to call him "Fred" instead. So after that the family members and hospital staff called him by his new name, "Fred". And "Fred" will be dearly missed by his family members and friends.
Before he left us he declared "Jesus as his personal savior" to Cory, Phillip, Auntie Rhoda, and Elgie and Rocky Mahto,
Dorvan is survived by his daughter, Reeiikwa Ndawe Starr; his wife, Sharon Mendoza; his brothers, Cory Starr, Phillip Starr III, Elmer Starr, and Clem Perkins; sisters, Karen Gillis of Lawrence, Kansas, Ardene Perkins, and Kim Dickens, both of White Shield; stepbrothers and sisters, Felicia Reed, Jerlayn Enno, Cletis Poitra, Craig Poitra, and Melissa Poitra; uncle and aunts, McRoy Starr, Wichita, KS, Margaret Starr, Bismarck, ND, Pearl Reed, New Town, ND, Janice and Rhoda Star, Garrison, Melda Lambert, New Town, Connie Howling Wolf and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dorvan was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Alfonso Joseph Starr, Ronnie Perkins; sisters, Jolene and Georgianna Starr; grandparents, Phillip, Sr. and Kate Starr, Joe Reed, Sr. and Georgianna Reed-Plenty Chief, Henry and Lizzie Perkins and aunt – stepmother, Maude Reed Starr.
