Obituary

Dorven Mathew White Bear Jr., Tanàha  (Buffalo) died on Sunday, January 3, 2020 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo.  His  Indian name was given to him by his grandmother Sawaawho, at a young age.

Dorven is a member of the Grass Dance Society, Deer Society, & Prairie Chicken Clan.

Dorven Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Grand Father, age 59 was born to Dorven and Celeste (Dickens) White Bear Sr.  August 17, 1961 in Garrison ND.

As a young man he often spent time with his White Bear grandparents in the country. He grew up with many cousins, playing and riding the BIG palomino horse Jug Head. Ten small children could sit on Jug Head from neck to tail. One of his favorite times was going swimming at the lake with all cousins.

Dorven attended school K-12 in White Shield School.  Job corps in 1981 for carpentry. He worked in Alaska to try his hand at crab fishing.

Dorven met JoAnn Ferguson while attending Job Corp in 1981, through this union a daughter Shauna Marie White Bear

Dorven had a happy go lucky personality, he was always telling jokes, many about his own escapades.  Dorven loved animals, he had many dogs during his life. He spoiled his last dog Biscuit, making sure she was groomed and had her nails painted. Sadly Biscuit passed away December 15 2020 truly a man's best friend.  He also enjoyed gardening especially growing hot peppers for his spicy recipes. Dorven was extremely proud of having attained carpentry skills, he loved building a project and seeing the final outcome of his hard work. For fun he also loved shooting a good game of pool with friends. His granddaughter Alia Carry Moccasin became his little partner, following him everywhere she could. Another hobby he could be found playing is horse shoes listening to the sound of a ringer. He also enjoyed going to casinos.  Dorven traveled to many places, Washington State to work and visit relatives and friends, Alaska crab fishing, California working on cable TV., he also worked Fargo ND building the Bob Cat plant.  In 1999 he meet the love of his life, Hazel. They married Friday June 8 2001.  They made their home in Porcupine ND.

During his short stay in the Fargo hospital, with his good and humorous nature he made fast friends with the nursing staff, he could be heard joking with them staff. He even convinced a couple of them to dance for him.

Dorven is survived by his Wife Hazel White Bear Porcupine ND, Mother Celeste White Bear Morten ND, Daughter Shauna White Bear Bowmen Mt., Son Ryan Cumminghay Fargo ND, Sisters, Donna (Jon) Lewis White Shield ND, Brandy (TJ) White Bear, Shania (Trevor) White Bear Minot ND. Brothers Cary Roy (Joy) White Bear, Cody (Shannon) White Bear White Shield ND. Brother in laws Randy White Porcupine ND, Dana Carry Moccasin Mobridge SD, Sister in law Doreen (Verle) Red Tomahawk.  Many Nieces and Nephews.

Preceded in death: Grandparents Paternal Mathew & Alice (Eagle) White Bear, Maternal Felix & Maxine (Hosie) Dickens Sr., Father Dorven White Bear Sr.
