Obituary

Duwayne Haynes, 71, Lake Havasu City, AZ, formerly of Max, died on August 2, 2016 at a Lake Havasu City hospital. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 17, at 11:00 am at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Max. A prayer service will be held on Tuesday at 7:00 pm at the church.

Duwayne was born June 3, 1945 in Lemmon, SD to Rolland and H. Katherine (Vatland) Haynes. He grew up in Morristown, SD and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1964. Following graduation he enlisted in the US Air Force and was proud to have served his country from 1964 to 1968, during which time he became a Vietnam veteran.
Duwayne was joined in marriage to Linda Diegel on September 1, 1968. From this union came 4 children. He worked for Kmart in various states. In 1997, he and his family moved to Max, ND. He was employed by Mackley Construction, and later the City of Max as maintenance man until retiring in 2008. While living in Max he was involved with the Max Fire Department and Ambulance, and also drove bus for the Max School and West River Transit Bus System before moving to Arizona.

Upon the family's arrival to Arizona, he became involved with the C.E.R.T. team. He recently became assistant leader, and was involved with installation of over 200 knoxboxes, where he became known as "Mr. Knoxbox". He was also involved with the Desert Hills F.D. Auxiliary and was appointed V.P. He and Linda were both Head Ushers at the Grace Arts Live Theater. He was a member of the American Legion and Mount Olive Lutheran Church. Duwayne loved life and he loved people. He had a joke or a story for everyone he saw.
Duwayne is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Lori Haynes and Kristin Splichal; son, Aaron (Stacey) Haynes; one grandchild; brother, Charles Haynes, in-laws, Clinton (Ruth) Engelhardt, Carmen (Jim) Diehl, and Delores Diegel, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded into heaven by his parents, RC and Lydia Haynes, infant daughter, Amie, brother, Joe Haynes, in-laws, Gustav and Lydia Diegel, Delmar Diegel, Leila Engelhardt, and Susan Haynes; and son-in-law, Tim Splichal.
