Obituary

Edna Harchenko, 94, Garrison, died on Friday, September 7, 2018 at Garrison Memorial Hospital. Edna was born to Albert and Marie (Vangen) Nystuen near Cosby, ND on June 14, 1924. She attended country school in Divide County.
Edna married Mike Harchenko on August 2, 1947 in Montana. Together they had two sons. Mike died in 1985.
Edna was a graduated of Trinity Hospital Nursing School in Minot, ND. She was the owner/operator of the Sunnyside Nursing Home in Minot, ND in the 1950's. She was employed at Trinity Hospital in the 1960's in the Emergency room and obstetrics ward. She and her husband moved to Salem, OR where she was employed by Fairview State Hospital, a special needs facility.
Edna was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, a sister and an aunt. To hundreds she cared for she was "their" nurse!
She was preceded in death by her husband Mike, son Michael, brother, Peder, Otto, and Walter Nystuen, and sisters, Myrtle Ermer and Alma Talbot.
Edna is survived by her brother, Arnie (Sharon) Nystuen, Stevensville, MI; son, Dr. Vern (Alley) Harchenko, Garrison, ND; granddaughters, Dr. Andrea (Charlie) Monson, Minot, ND and Whitney (Calib) Garrett, Missoula, MT; step sons, Jerry Harchenko, Salem, OR, Ted (Shirley) Harchenko, Marysville, WA; step daughters, Ruby Adsitt, Dallas, OR and Videl Tremaine, Salem, OR.
By Edna's request, there will be no funeral and she directed her ashes be take to where she was raised in Divide County, ND.
