Edwin Arlt, 75, Coleharbor, was called home to the Lord on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at his home. Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 at the First Congregational Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the German Congregational Cemetery east of Garrison.
Ed was born to Emil and Mathilda (Walter) Arlt on November 13, 1941 at the Midhouse in Garrison, ND. He attended school Garrison Public Schools through the 8th grade when he went to work for his parents on the farm.
Ed married Judy DuPre on June 2, 1960. They moved to Hysam, MT, where Ed worked for the Kolb brothers. Together they had three children, Clarence, Randy, and Connie. They moved to Glasgow, MT, where Ed worked for a feed lot before moving to Billings, MT; also working at a feed lot. He then began his truck driving career, driving from 1986 to 1991, when he was forced to retire because of having a heart attack.
Ed was a very active member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles, acting as Chaplin in the Eagle's Lodge in Billings, MT. On Friday nights he would bartend and barbeque hamburgers at the Eagle's. Ed lost his first wife, Judy, to cancer on October 1, 1993.
In 1994, Ed began dating Bea Barnes DuPre. They retired to Garrison on Lake Audubon and on July 3, 2004, they were married by the lake with family and friends present.
Ed and Bea loved camping with family, friends, and the good Sams (Northern Lights) Chapter. He also loved to fish, boat, and play bingo. Ed and Bea truly loved each other and did everything together. Their home was always open to family and friends and they loved visitors.
Ed enjoyed his First Congregational Church family. He was very active at church as an usher and gave tours of the church during the Dicken's Festival. Ed loved kids and was known as the "Sucker Man" at the church, always having a pocket full of Tootsie Pops for the children.
Ed is survived by his wife of 13 years, Bea, Coleharbor, ND; son, Randy Arlt, Billings, MT; brother, Ernest (Faye) Arlt, Minot, ND; sister, Alvina Maier, Elgin, ND; stepdaughters, Raeann (David) Doll, Hamilton, MT, Sherrae (Dennis) Rumsey, Billings, MT; grandchildren, Becca, Lisa, and Eddie Arlt, Michael Doll, Brandy Jo Groscap, Denise Lewis, and Dennis Rumsey; great grandchildren, Kiara Lewis, Jace Lenz, Thad Lewis, Makayla Lewis, Kinlee Rumsey, Zakari Barnett, and Riker Lewis; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded death by his parents, first wife, Judy, son, Clarence Arlt, daughter, Connie Arlt, and brothers, Richard and Ruben Arlt.
