Edwin (Eddie) Kempf, 94, Max, died at home with family on Monday, April 3rd, 2017. Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 8 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church at 11:00am.
Eddie was born August 2, 1922 in Coleharbor, ND to Mathew and Anna (Auch) Kempf. He was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Emanuel Church. He was raised on the family farm in Coleharbor, ND with his older brother and sister. He attended a country school and helped his Father on the farm and care for his ill Mother until she passed. Eddie was enlisted in the US Army in 1945 in the Calvary at Fort Riley, Kansas and honorably discharged in 1947. He met his wife Betty in 1948 and were married June 30th, 1949.
Eddie worked for Great Plains Supply Company for almost 30 years, managing the Max Lumberyard, and later the Garrison location. Eddie was very involved in the American Legion, serving as Adjutant to the John Herdt Post No. 241 in Max.
Eddie enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting and fixing things. After retirement he became the town lawnmower repairman. Eddie had a wonderful sense of humor and had a joke for everything. Eddie could talk to anyone and made friends instantly.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Mathew and Anna Kempf, Sister Christine (Kempf) Butterfield, and his brother Royal Kempf and son Mark Allan Kempf.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Betty (Kohler) Kempf, daughter, Peggy (Kempf) Willoughby, son Don Kempf, son Rob Kempf and wife Vicki, daughter Sally (Kempf) Wandrei and husband Dan, son Richard Kempf. Grandchildren, Seth Willoughby, Brienne (Willoughby) Jenkins, Madeline Kempf, MacKenzie Kempf, Luke Kempf, Max Kempf, and Jack Kempf. Great grandchildren Zaida (Lulabelle) Jenkins, and Taven Jenkins. Nieces and Nephews.
