Obituary

Edwin McCloskey, 77, Mesa, AZ, formerly of Minot and Garrison, died on March 4, 2018 in Mesa. Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 18, at 10:00 am at the First Congregational Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan at 1:00 pm.
Edwin Gary McCloskey was born May 14, 1940 to Lester and Dorothy (Robinson) McCloskey. He was raised and educated in Granville, ND. Following high school, Ed enlisted in the US Navy was honorably discharged after serving his term. After his service in the Navy, Ed returned to Granville and married Vivian Judith Mueller on December 14, 1962 at Hope Congregational Church in Granville and was happily married until Vivian's death in 2010.
Ed and Vivian lived in Minot for many years, where they owned and operated Scottie's Muffler and Car Wash. Ed also worked for UPS for several years and was a TV repairman and Route Salesman. They moved to Garrison in 1997. Ed began going to Mesa in the winters beginning in 2011 but would still return to North Dakota for the summer months.
Ed was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed many forms of hunting and was also an avid fisherman, both in the summer and the winter. He enjoyed camping as well as spending time with friends and family. He also enjoyed playing card games, dominos, and other board games. At the time of his death he was president of the Sundland Village Shuffleboard Club. Above all, Ed was a true family man and was completely devoted to his wife, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his daughters, Shilah (Saul) Horowitz, Sheri (Patrick) Sorg, all of Minot, ND; grandchildren, Katie Aberle, Jarryd Bohl and Lindsay Jarvis, Jeremiah Aberle, Maggie Aberle and Brandon Biberdorf; great grandchildren, Zoey, Lux, and Leo Bohl; brother, Roger McCloskey, Bismack, ND; and a sister, Carol Kundo, Freeze, MN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian, and his parents.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the veterans association of their choice.
