Ed Schmidt, 87, formerly of Max, died Jan 4th, 2018 at CHI St. Alexius Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday January 8th at St. Matthew's Church in Max ND. Burial will be at the church cemetery in rural Max.
Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services at the church.
Edwin Schmidt was born to Waldo & Frieda (Bauch) Schmidt on Dec 18, 1930 in Max ND. He was raised on the farm southeast of Max and attended school in Max. Ed married Dellora Fischer on June 27, 1954 at the Lutheran church in Riverdale. They made their home on the farm and raised their three children, Mark, Bonnie and Bruce. Upon their retirement they moved into Max.
Together, Ed and Dellora, had countless accomplishments. They received the North Dakota 4-H Century Family Award for 100 years in Extension 4-H involvement. They were also recipients of the NDSU Harvest Bowl McLean County and the National Hardee Fair Volunteer Award. One of Edwin's top honors was being inducted into the North Dakota Fair Association Hall of Fame.
Edwin had many trades and no grass grew under his feet. He owned E. Schmidt Enterprise, prepared taxes and sold insurance for Bremer Bank in Max. He served as a 4-H club leader, McLean county fair board member for 56 years, North Dakota 4-H Foundation director, North Dakota 4-H Camp board member, North Dakota State Fair director and West McLean Soil Conservation member. He was also a member of various volunteer organizations in Max.
Ed and Dellora were proud to operate the Collection of Schmidt Family Museum.
Edwin didn't have a lot of down time, but when he did, he like to do difficult jigsaw puzzles. He thoroughly enjoyed watching athletics, especially the Twins, NDSU Bison & Minnesota Vikings. Edwin was also a member of St. Matthew's Church in Max and the Max Senior Citizens.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Dellora of 63 years; children, Bonnie (Keith) Johnson, and Bruce (Ranae) Schmidt; grandchildren, Carie Lium (JR), Aaron Johnson (Kjellann), Sara Deichert (Ryan), Amy Steinert (Jordan), Katie Johansen (Chase) , & Tyler Schmidt (Christine); great grandchildren, Hannah, Hailey & Helena Lium; Declan Johansen; Zoey Johnson & Bexley Steinert.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Mark Schmidt.
