Obituary

Eileen Ziegler, 99, died on Thursday, February 4, 2016, one day short of her 100th birthday, at the Garrison Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2:00 pm at the First Congregational Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 pm at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.

Kathryn Eileen Ziegler was born Feb 5, 1916 in Anita Iowa to Earl & Edna (Robinson) Rodgers. Her family moved to Blackwater Township west of Garrison when Eileen was 9. They later moved into Garrison where she graduated from Garrison High School in the Class of 1934. She then went on to college and graduated from Bismarck Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. She worked as a registered nurse in Rochester, MN, and then in Portland OR.

Eileen married Clyde (Pat) Ziegler in Portland, OR on May 25, 1943. They had a son, Larry Paul born 1944. They moved back to ND to a farm near Emmet in 1946. They had their second son, Dan Darwin in 1949. Eileen started working at the Garrison Memorial Hospital when it opened in 1952. Eventually she became Director of Nursing at the hospital before her retirement. She worked for over 38 years at the hospital. Eileen moved to Garrison upon the death of her husband in 1961.

Eileen enjoyed many hobbies, including golfing, camping, cards, gardening and traveling. Eileen was never one to stop learning something new. She took up line-dancing and hardanger (Norwegian embroidery) in her 80's. She was also a member of the First Congregational Church in Garrison, Big Bend Eastern Star, and Blackwater Homemaker's Club.

Eileen is survived by a daughter-in-law, Barbara Ziegler Hoggarth, grandchildren, Debra (Barry) Rasmuson of Minot, Karen (Jeff) Skjold of West Fargo, Steve (Dawn) Ziegler of Hazen ND, DaNae Ziegler and Derrick Ziegler both of the Seattle area. Also survived by 8 great grandchildren: Kelsey and Ethan Rasmuson, Khale and Clair Skjold, Samantha (Dave) Forster, DeeAnna, and Stephanie Ziegler, and Braylen Ziegler and brother-in-law Ted Hermann and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sons, Dan and Larry, grandson, Thomas Ziegler, two brothers Donald & Leland Rodgers, two sisters, Joanne Hermann & Doris Page Bossert, and a very special friend, Leona Sayler.
