Obituary

Eleanor Olson, 87, Garrison, formerly of Bowbells, died on Sunday, March 11 at a Garrison nursing home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bowbells. A rosary will be said on Friday beginning at 7:00 pm at the church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday one hour prior to the rosary at the church and for 1 hour prior to funeral services at the church.

Eleanor was born May 5, 1924, the daughter of Mathias and Anna (Hondl) Funk, on a farmstead located in Carter Township, Burke County, west of Bowbells, ND. She graduated from Bowbells High School and later went on to business college in Fargo. Eleanor later worked as the Register of Deeds in Burke County.

Eleanor has one son from her first marriage, Dennis Beck. She later married Verne Olson and had two daughters, Lori and Tammy. Verne had two daughters from his marriage to Alice Ross, so Eleanor gained two stepdaughters, Ramona and Virginia.

Eleanor loved to travel with her brother, Leo and sister, Florence. She loved to go dancing with her husband, Verne. She also enjoyed playing bingo, cards, bowling and listening to music. She was a very active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bowbells. She worked with the ladies aid and also taught religion classes. She also helped with 4-H while her girls were involved. Eleanor was a wonderful cook and mother to all the children under her roof.

Eleanor is survived by her brother, Leo Funk, Kenmare; 10 nieces; 5 nephews; sister-in-law, Leona Funk; son, Dennis Beck, Utah; daughters, Lori (Daren) Goodman, Mandan, Tammy (Albert) Cannard, Okinawa, Japan; step daughters, Ramona Ellison, Jamestown, Virginia (Terry) Ellison, Garrison; grandchildren, Stephanie Eckert, Keith Ellison, Pamela Kolden, Jennifer Grote, Thomas Ellison, Katina Wolford, Brandina Messner, Jeanne Ellison, Elley Cannard, Jace Cannard, and Kylie Beck; great grandchildren, Dylan, Logan, Harley and Brady Eckert, Cayli, Casyn, and Clay Kolden, Emily and Erika Grote, Koven and Kage Wolford, CaSara and Bryson Messner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Verne, sister, Florence, brother, Arnold, and grandson, Verne Ellison.
