Elizabeth Mary Peterson was born June 8, 1919 to Raymond and Elizabeth (Pfliger) Fix on a farm near Dodge, ND. She was the 3rd oldest in a family of 9. Her family moved to Nishu where she and her siblings walked 5 miles to a country school house. Even as a young girl, Lizzie was a hard worker and had to help with all the duties on the farm including gathering eggs, milking the cows, and the constant duty of hauling water from the lake. Her family later moved to Emmet where she continued to help with all the chores. At the age of 15, Lizzie began working in Garrison at Frederick's Café. She also cleaned homes and later worked at the various coal mines, cooking and cleaning for the worker's.
On November 29, 1941, Lizzie married Harold "Sid" Peterson. They made their home in Garrison, and raised their children. As her children grew up and attended school, Lizzie began working at the Garrison Hospital dietary department. She worked at the hospital for 26 years before retiring and enjoying the quietness and calmness of the later years in her life.
Lizzie was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison and was an active member of St. Ann's Altar Society. She loved to tend to her yard and flower garden, as well as dance and sing. She would often sing songs in German to her children, their favorite being "Three Roses". Her children and grandchildren were the true love in her life and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Lizzie is survived by her children, Gordon Peterson, Tennessee, Bonnie ( Harry) Hamann, Wahpeton, ND, Linda (Wade) Kolden, Garrison, ND, Floyd (Linda) Kuhn, Bozeman, MT, and Jim Peterson, Garrison, ND; 29 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; and a sister, Marie Kurtz, Fergus Falls, MN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold "Sid", son, Richard, infant daughter, Kristina, and her daughter-in-law, Sally Peterson.
