Obituary

Ellen Crawford, 85, Beulah, longtime Garrison resident, died on Thursday April 05 at a Bismarck hospital. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 am at Saint Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2 to 7 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison, with rosary at the church at 7:00 pm.

Ellen Kerzmann was born to Henry and Margaret (O'Shea) Kerzmann at St Alexius Hospital in Bismarck on July 12, 1926. Ellen was the only one of 9 children born in a hospital. She attended elementary and high school in McLean County and later taught grade school in the area. During World War II she worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, WA building B-29s.

On April 23, 1947, Ellen married Julian 'Bud' Crawford in Garrison. Five children were born to them, Tom, Colleen, Peggy, Jim, and Richard. In addition to helping her husband farm in the Emmet area, she worked as an aide at Garrison Memorial Hospital. She continued to work at the hospital after the family moved to Garrison in 1967, retiring in 1972 after a back injury. Julian died in 1983. In 2009, Ellen and her sister Mary Kerzmann moved to Senior Suites in Hazen and in 2011 they moved to the Knife River Care Center, Beulah, where she resided at the time of her death.

Ellen is survived by sons Tom (Mavis), Otsego, MN, Jim (Susan), Fargo, and Richard (Karen), Bismarck; son-in-law Art Alexander, Garrison; sister Margaret Boyle, Apple Valley, MN; ten grandchildren Michelle Crawford, Kelley (Travis) Shealy, Andrew (Lisa) Crawford, Richard (Tammi) Alexander, Casey (Josh) Elgaen, Jim Alexander, Tracey Smith, Ross Smith, Sarah Crawford, and Ben (Alicia) Crawford; great grandchildren, Alex Crawford, Patrick Johnson, Canon Shealy, Kayleen, Brady, Clarissa, and Nathan Alexander, Kassie Elgaen, Sage Smith, Sydney Breimeier; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; daughters Colleen (Art) Alexander and Peggy (Kevin) Grover, brothers Alvin, George, and Henry Kerzmann, and two infant brothers; sister Mary Kerzmann and grandchildren Julian Crawford and Stacy Seidler.
