Obituary

Elmer Starr, 58, Chicago, IL, formerly of White Shield, died on Sunday at a Chicago hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 4th, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Ralph Wells Jr. Memorial Complex in White Shield. Wake services will be held on Friday at 5:00 pm at the complex.

Elmer "Fudd" Duane Starr, "Ree-Assiniboine Boy", was born February 15, 1958 to Marvella (Reed) and Phillip Starr Jr. in Garrison, ND. Elmer passed from this earthly life on September 28, 2014 to his home with Grandma Kate, his mumma and daddy, and brothers, Alfonzo and Dorvan, and his two sisters, Jolene and "Banana".

Elmer started school in White Shield, ND. He lived with Pauline Price for a couple years while he attended school because his parents had moved to Chicago in 1967 and he refused to go with them. Eventually he did move to Chicago and he later attended school in Marty, South Dakota where he made many friends along with in Chicago During his adult life, he lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Bismarck, and Mandan, North Dakota before moving back to Chicago where he lived at the time of his passing.

Elmer was a gentle soul and he enjoyed being with his family and friends. His nephews and nieces were his "best buds". He was his sister's best babysitter, but his hobby was "hanging with the boyz".
When Elmer lived in Bismarck, he would visit his Aunt Margaret. She would tell him our Starr family history, our customs, and our traditions. He had many questions of our Sahnish people and their history. He was learning to carry on our Sahnish Oral History. He could sit for hours listening. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

Elmer leaves behind his brothers: Cory Starr, Phillip III, Joe Reed Sons, sisters: Twyla Reed, Ardene Perkins and Kim Dickens, nephews: Alfonzo, Vance, Phillip the 4th, Sonny, and Daniel, nieces: Toni Rae, Jamie, Leslie, Virginia, Rose, Josie, Angel, Cheyenne, Marvella, Autum, and Ree, uncle: McRoy Starr, aunts: Margaret Starr, Janice Star, Theresa Charging, and Rhoda Star, grandmother: Aunt Pearl Spotted Horse-Reed, and his many cousins and friends.
Elmer Fudd was preceded in death by his parents, grandmothers: Kate Star and Georgianna Reed-Plenty Chief, grandfathers: Philip Star Sr. and Joseph Reed Sr, brothers: Alfonzo Joseph Starr, Dorvan Starr, and sisters: Jolene Starr and Georgianna "Banana" Starr, and Elmer was a great-great-great grandson of Sahnish Chief Son-of-The-Star, on his mother's side of the family.
