Obituary

Elna Mai, 72, Bismarck, formerly of Garrison, died on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at a Bismarck hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 am at Peace Lutheran Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 7 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.

Elna was born February 19, 1940 in Richardton, ND to Otto and Magdalena (Hornberger) Wiedenmeyer. She was raised and educated in Zap, ND. She was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dodge, ND and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Zap, ND. She married Eldor Mai on April 6, 1958 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Zap and they made their home in Garrison. She worked at the Garrison Hospital for a number of years and later worked as the head cook for the Garrison school systems for over 25 years.

Elna had the kindest heart that was full of unconditional love that made everyone feel like they were "the special one". She was always worried about everyone else and had a soft spot for all those "naughty kids" at the school. She loved having family gatherings and cooking for everyone. She also loved to go to coffee and was always up for a good visit.

Elna is survived by her husband, Eldor, Bismarck; son, Jim (Tammy) Mai, Sis (Mike) McKinney; grandchildren, Angela Keys, Amy (Nate) Greff, Eric Enderle, Tiffany Mai, Madison McKinney; great grandchildren, Braiden, Logan, and Tyler Anderson; 3 sisters, Delores Berberick, Norma Gilge, and LuVerne (Ivan) Dschaak; one brother, Delvin (Mavis) Wiedenmeyer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Dean Mai, brothers, Eric and Wilbur Wiedenmeyer, and a sister, Hildegard Fenske.
