Emma Hushka, 87, Garrison, died on Friday, September 05, 2014, at a Garrison hospital. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 10:00 am at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison. A rosary will be said on Sunday beginning at 7:00 pm at the church. Burial will be at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Garrison.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1 to 6 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.
Emma was born March 29, 1927 to Alex and Mathilda (Berger) Hauck on a farm near Richarton, ND, where she was raised and educated. On June 6, 1945 Emma married Anton "Tony" Hushka in Richardton, ND. They made their home in Garrison where Emma worked at the Garrison Memorial Hospital for 40 years. In September of 2000, Tony and Emma moved to Minot, ND. Tony died in April of 2005 and Emma remained in Minot until 2014, when she moved back to Garrison.
Emma will be remembered for her wonderful cooking and quilts that she so graciously shared with her children. She also loved to dance and play cards.
Emma is survived by her sons, Gary (Paulette) Hushka, Garrison, ND, Perry (Kim) Hushka, Hazen, ND; daughters, Diane (Leonard) Kassner, Minot, ND, Linda (Ronald) Nesti, Colorado Springs, CO, Lisa (Dean) Minette, Surprise, AZ; grandchildren, Carmen Sharp, Tony Nesti, Michael Nesti, Kayla Kassner, Carla (Kris) Hanson, Kari (Joe) Swital, Jason Hushka, Joseph (Nicole) Hushka, Sara (Dave) Kerzmann, Stephanie (Wayne) Weiss, Tina (Jason) Lagge, Kevin Hushka, Lori Hushka, Kathryn O'Hara, and Kyle Minette; great grandchildren, Samantha and Nicholas Sharp, Eric, Ethan, and Isaac Lagge, Aaron, Tanner, and Alyssa Hushka, Mason and Hayden Swital, Addison, Noah, and Ian Hushka, Brooke, Averey, Connor, Hadley, and Landry Kerzmann, Emree, Dawson, and Owen Weiss, Lia and Layla Nesti,Thomas O'Hara, and Peyton Hanson; brother, Leonard Hauck, sisters, Betty Travato and Hilda Dewald; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, Anton "Tony" Hushka, brothers, Leo, Paul, William, Benjamin, Anton, Nicholas, and Norbert Hauck, and sisters, Katherine Flink, and Sally Wanner, and grandson-in-law, Matthew O'Hara.
