Obituary

Ervin Kolden, 92, Garrison, formerly of Roseglen, died on Thursday, March 5, at St. Alexius hospital in Bismarck. Funeral services will be held on Monday 11:00 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Roseglen. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 to 7 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.

Ervin was born March 12, 1922 in rural Roseglen, ND to Lars and Anna (Sysness) Kolden. He was raised on his family's farm and attended rural school in Roseglen and graduated from Ryder High School.

Ervin married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Larson, on October 1, 1941 at Evelyn's parent's home near Ryder. They made their home in rural Roseglen and raised three sons, Wade, Kent, and Thomas.

Ervin's life revolved around his farm and family. He spent the vast majority of his time working his fields and raising cattle. He worked for the Soil Conservation for a number of years where he measured wheat acres. He was honored to received the Soil Conservation Award for tree planting. He also worked on a construction crew and was proud to help build the White Shield Complex building. In his spare time he drove school bus for the White Shield and Garrison School Districts.

Ervin was an active member of the Roseglen community, serving on the township board for numerous years and was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Roseglen. Ervin did allow himself a little fun, becoming an avid bowler, once bowling a "280".

Ervin is survived by three sons, Wade (Linda) Kolden, Garrison, ND, Kent (Mary Lou) Kolden, Douglas, ND, and Tom Kolden, Wadena, MN; grandchildren, Kari (Russell) Titus, Michael (Gretchen) Kolden, Justin (Dana) Kolden, Jennifer Kolden, Paul Kolden, Allan (Shandee) Kolden, Sarah Kolden, Rebekah Kolden, and Rachel Kolden; great-grandchildren, Ben (Emily), Daniel, Victoria and Levi Titus, Joseph Kolden, Terese and Gabrielle Kilden, Kaleigh Kolden, Noah and Harper Kolden, and Lumen Kolden; step great-grandchildren, Jessica Heuer, Alec and Chloe Kolden, great-great-grandchild, George Titus; sisters-in-law, Ella Kolden and Evelyn (Chris Kolden) Patton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Evelyn, brothers, great grandson, Isaac Titus, and grandson, Jeffrey Kolden, who disappeared June 8, 2002, Lloyd, Clifford, Chris, Anton, and Julius Kolden; sisters-in-law, Blenda Kolden, Fern Kolden, and Martha Kolden, daughter-in-law, Barb Kolden.
