Esther Red Fox, 88, Bismarck, formerly of White Shield, left this world peacefully on Monday, August 5, 2011 at her home where she wanted to be, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 am at the Ralph Wells Memorial Complex in White Shield. Wake services will be held on Thursday beginning at 5:00 pm at the complex. Burial will be at the Arikara Congregational Cemetery in rural White Shield.

Esther was born April 7, 1923 in Nishu, ND, the daughter of Joseph and Susan (Many Bears) Red Fox. She played basketball in her younger years for the Elbowoods Warriors. Her love for basketball remained with her for the rest of her life. Her favorite teams were the Los Angeles Lakers and the UTTC Thunderbirds. She enjoyed pow-wows, especially the United Tribes, where she got to spend time with her sister, brothers, and sisters-in-law.

Her favorite hobby was photography. There weren't many occasions when there wasn't a camera in her purse. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, which she referred to as her "homework." Her true love in life was her grandchildren and was very proud of her great grandchildren. Eighty eight years is a life time, but it still wasn't enough. We wish we had more time Ma-Great. We let go because we love you. This is a sad day on earth, but a happy day in heaven.

Esther is survived by one brother, William Roland Fox, sister; Dolly Azure; 3 daughters; one son; one adopted son, Daryl Bearstail; 16 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and a very special granddaughter she raised, Leah Red Fox.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Susan Red Fox, brothers, Calvin, Wilburt, and Laidman Sr., sister, Alfreda Red Fox, and grandchildren, Donna and Kibbee Reynol
