Ethel Anna Duben, 87, Coleharbor, died on Friday, October 30, 2020 at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Underwood. A public graveside service with social distancing will be held immediately following church services at the Coleharbor Cemetery.
A public visitation (masks are required) will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 7 pm at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.
Ethel Anna Duben, known to all the Coleharbor kids (no matter the age) as Granny Annie, was born May 24, 1933 to Emery and Edna (Prouty) Zuck. She was raised and educated in the Coleharbor area. Anna met Edward Duben in the 1950's after he had moved to the Coleharbor area during the construction of the Garrison Dam. Anna and Ed were married on May 23, 1959. They made their home in the Underwoood/Coleharbor area where they farmed and raised their 6 children.
Anna was a cook all her life, mostly at the 83 Café in Coleharbor. She was a soft spoken, kind and caring wife, mother and friend. Everyone knew that her home, kitchen and heart were always open to anyone that stopped by. Granny Annie will forever be missed!
Anna is survived by her children, Emery (Cindy) Duben, Lansford, ND, Paul (Rhonda) Duben, Garrison, ND, Julie (Joel) Bergstedt, Hazen, ND and Arizona, John (Stacey) Duben, Coleharbor, ND, Mary (Marcus) Wertz, Coleharbor, ND and Anthony (Erin) Duben, Devils Lake, ND; 15 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; sister, Julia Hedden, New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edward, 5 sisters, 5 brothers, grandson, Thomas Wertz, and a sister-in-law, Helen Duben.
