Evelyn Herdt, 93, Garrison, died on Monday, May 14, 2018 at her home after a brief illness. Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison.
Evelyn was born August 23, 1924 in Colburn, CO to Charles and Eva (Store) Frame. She was raised and educated in in Colbran, CO. Following school, she moved to Washington State and worked at various jobs during World War II. She later moved back to Colorado and owned and operated her own restaurant. It was at the restaurant that she met her future husband, Elmer Herdt. Evelyn and Elmer were married on February 8, 1954 in Buffalo, SD. They moved around a lot as Elmer worked in the construction field, but they settled in Garrison, ND and made that their home, and raised their two children, Deloris and Jim.
Evelyn worked many different jobs including, bartending and cooking at the Stone Inn Restaurant for many years. She also cleaned at many different businesses in Garrison and the surrounding communities.
Evelyn loved to cook. It wasn't just her job, she truly loved to cook and was very good at it. In her spare time she also enjoyed embroidering. Evelyn was a very dedicated wife and mother and took very good care of her family. Evelyn was also a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Jim Herdt, Minot, 2 grandchildren, Tim Cohen, Tom (Mariah) Cohen, 6 great grandchildren, Max, Mitchell, Taylor, Drake, Wilson, and Lauren, 1 great great grandchild, Charlotte Oluich, brother-in-law, Melvin Herdt, Turtle Lake; several nieces and nephews, and her beloved Chihuahua, Sandy.
She was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Deloris "Wendy" Cohen, 2 brothers, Jim and Dave Frame, 2 sisters, Doris Wallace and Sis Frame, 2 sisters-in-law, Emma Rath and Edna Kreller, and one brother-in-law, Rueben Herdt.
