Evelyn Kolden, 90, Roseglen, died on Wednesday, March 28 at a Bismarck hospital. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Roseglen. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 7 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.
Evelyn Kathryn Larson was born to pioneer parents, Lars and Ingrid (Warn) Larson on their rural Ryder homestead on December 24, 1921. She attended elementary school in Hiddenwood Township and graduated from Ryder High School in 1939, as valedictorian. In high school she had done well in clerical studies and after graduation held several secretarial jobs working at the Ryder Farmer's Union Elevator the ASCS office, and at the city assessor's office in Minot.
In 1941, Evelyn married her high school sweetheart, Ervin Kolden, at her parent's home. Three sons were born to them, Wade, Kent and Thomas. When the children were all in school, Evelyn began a 20 year career as secretary at White Shield School. In 1981 she retired and lived as a farm wife.
Evelyn's hobbies from time to time included craft woodworking, lapidary (rock art), and oil painting. She also loved to play piano and often played with the OK's Dance Band. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church always helping with the quilting projects and lutefisk suppers. She also held several positions on different branches of church activities including, Sunday school teacher, ladies aid president, secretary/treasurer, and council member. She also served as treasurer of Camp of the Cross for several years.
Gardening and sharing the products of her efforts was also one of her joys. The basement cupboards and freezers were always full of canned and frozen foods from her garden, berry patches and apple trees.
Evelyn is survived by her husband Ervin, Garrison, sons, Wade (Linda) Kolden, Garrison, Kent (Mary Lou) Kolden, Douglas, Tom (Barbara) Kolden, Minneota, MN; grandchildren, Kari (Russell) Titus, Michael Kolden, Justin (Dana) Kolden, Jennifer Kolden, Paul Kolden, Allan (Shandee) Kolden, Sarah Kolden, Rebekah Kolden, and Rachel Kolden; great grandchildren, Ben, Daniel, Victoria and Levi Titus, Joseph Kolden, Terese and Gabriel Kolden, Kaleigh Kolden, Noah and Harper Kolden, step great grandchildren, Jessica Heuer, Samantha Kolden, Alec and Chloe Kolden, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 8 siblings, great grandson, Isaac Titus, and grandson Jeffrey Kolden, who disappeared June 8, 2002.
