Obituary

Frances Spitanik, 95, Garrison, formerly of Max, died on Monday, November 11, 2014 at the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Max. A rosary will be said on Thursday beginning at 7:00 pm at the church. Burial will be held at 1:00 pm at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2 to 5 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.

Frances Lucille Spitanik, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Roul) Spitanik was born on February 1, 1919 in Iota Flat Township, Ward County, North Dakota. She attended Max Public School and received her GED later in life.

She helped her parents with farming until they retired in 1950 and they moved to Max. After that she became their care giver. Frances worked at grocery stores in Max and Garrison and from 1964 to 1969 she worked at Cunningham's Department store. In March of 1969 she started working for the United States Postal Service in Max until she retired on December 1986. In October of 2009 she moved to Garrison to live at the Meadows. In January of 2014 she moved to the Benedictine Living Center.

Frances enjoyed spending time in her garden and flowers. It gave her great pleasure when she could share her harvest. She took great pleasure staying in touch with her many friends and family through letters and cards. Also, we can't forget her best companions her cats that lived with her through the years.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and Ladies Aid. Also a charter member of the Senior Citizens (over 55) Club.

She is survived by her nephews; Ronald and Peggy Osadchy (Max, ND), Donald and Julie Osadchy (Max, ND) niece; Judy and Jim Schall (Woodbury, MN) nephew in law; Joe Hayden (New York Mills, MN) and grand nieces and nephews.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Mary Spitanik and Kathryn Osadchy and her niece Mary Hayden.
