Obituary

Franklin "Sioux" Howard Jr. 68, "Sneaking up on the enemy", White Shield, died on Saturday, June 16, at his son's home in Billings, MT. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am at the Ralph Wells Jr. Memorial Complex in White Shield. Wake services will be held on Wednesday beginning at 6:00 pm at the complex. Burial will be at St. Paul's Episcopal Cemetery in White Shield.

Sioux was born June 27, 1943 in Elbowoods, ND to Franklin Sr. and Marion Pearl (Felix) Howard. He was raised and educated in White Shield. At age 17, his father signed off so he could enlist in the US Navy. This enlistment started a lifelong career in the military. He service began in the Vietnam Conflict. After completing his tour of duty, he was honorably discharged. He then entered the Merchant Marines, and started his long career in traveling the world. It was the family joke when Sioux would call and they would try to figure out where he was calling from. No matter where he was, he made a point of calling family members on holidays and special occasions.

Sioux finished his duties with the Merchant Marines in 1984. He then went to Culinary school. He loved to cook and was famous for his homemade pies, mostly because of the best crust ever made. He also made beautiful dishes using fruit to make the designs. When he wasn't working, Sioux also liked to play bingo and going to casinos. He was also the head cook and waiter for the Eagle Butte Sundance.

Sioux is survived by his son, John Howard, daughters, Marion (Alexander) Howard, Christine Coming Hay, nad Charlene McHam; adopted children, Guy Fox, Elynn Joy-Gene, and Adaline Cavanagh; brothers, Sidney Howard, Louis (Candyce) Howard, Olin Howard, Wade (Kim) Howard, Dana Howard; sister, Yvonne (Duane) Fox, Anita (Russell) Deane; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Pearl Howard, wife, Germaine Coming Hay-Howard, older brother, Oscar John Howard, children, Joyce and William Coming Hay.
