Gertrude (Johnson) Hieb Boyd, 97, Garrison, North Dakota passed away January 19, 2018 at the Garrison Immediate Care Facility, Garrison, North Dakota. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 pm at Peace Lutheran Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 3 to 6 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.

Gertrude was born January 31, 1920 near Washburn, N.Dak. to Bernt & Bertha (Olson) Johnson. She was the youngest of 18 children and was raised on the family farm north of Washburn. She graduated from Washburn High School May 26, 1938.

Gertrude married Jacob Hieb on September 24, 1940 and from this marriage had four (4) daughters. Jacob died December 15, 1959. In later years she married Jack Boyd.

Gertrude and Jacob lived in Elbowoods, ND until it was covered by flood waters in 1953. They moved to Garrison and she lived there until 1987 when she moved to Milton-Freewater, Oregon to help care for her sister. She returned to Garrison in 2000 and lived alone there until April 2015 at which time she entered the Immediate Care Facility at the Garrison Hospital, Third floor.

Gertrude was always so proud of her family and cherished them all. She loved her Church and was ever so faithful. She was also an avid baker, especially of rhubarb goodies and jelly.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, 17 brothers and sisters, 1 great-grandson and several sons-in-law.

She is survived by four (4) daughters, Margaret Staehr – Garrison; Luella Laudahl – Casa Grande, Az.; Marian Staehr – Casa Grande, Az.; and Edith (David) McNamara – New Town, N. D.; seven (7) grandchildren – Shannon (Brenda) Staehr – Garrison; Sherylynn (Mike) Oster – Garrison; Daymyn (Cheri) Marsette – New Town; Daunelle Marsette – Bismarck; Julie (Jeff) Thompson – Seattle, Wa.; Jennifer (Bob) Staehr – Bonney Lake, Wa.; Jason Ingalls – Casa Grande, Az.; eleven (11) great-grandchildren and seven (7) great-great-grandchildren.
