Gladys Huber, 96, Garrison, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at an Underwood nursing home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at the First Congregational Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 to 8 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.
Gladys was born September 11, 1915 to Gilbert and Inga (Anderson) Simonson in Van Hook, ND, where she was raised and educated. She married Charles Huber on October 18, 1935 at the Congregational Church in Elbowoods. They lived in their log home for several years before moving to Montana. In 1944, Charles entered the service and they moved to Garrison where they would reside for over 68 years.
During the early years of their marriage, Gladys worked as a waitress and a hotel matron. She worked many years at the Sayler's Five and Dime in Garrison. Once her grandchildren starting coming, Gladys spent most of her time taking care of her children and grandchildren. There was never a time that they weren't welcome at her house, except maybe from 12:30 to 2, which was Grandma Gladys "naptime". While spending every minute she could with family she still found time to raise a big beautiful garden, and was known for sharing the fruits of her labor with anyone that wanted something. Her yard and garden were still well taken care of personally until just a few years ago. Gladys also loved to quilt. Her specialty was star quilts, which were very special gifts to all of her family.
Gladys also holds the world record for the longest garage sale. Once the sign went up, it just never came back down. Her garage was always open for business and when winter came, people just came in the back door of the house, where all the rummage had been moved. Gladys was also very proud to have been a life long member of the Earl Koenig VFW Post #6940 Auxiliary in Underwood.
Gladys is survived by her children, Shirley (Clarence) Simenson, Underwood, Dennis (Beverly) Huber, Bismarck, ND, Betty (Kenny) Huesers, Garrison, 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, granddaughter-in-law, Brenda Huesers; Garrison; and brothers, Freddie (Martha) Simonson, Bozeman, MT, Norman (Helen Mae) Simonson, Mesa, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, grandson, Bill Huesers, sisters, Edna Pollert, Angie Eagle, Mabel Kastner, and brothers, Norval, Alfred and Eddie Simonson.
