Glen was born May 1, 1923 to Peter and Mabel (Smith) Karlson in rural Emmet, ND. He was raised in rural Emmet and was educated at nearby country schools. As a very young teenage boy, Glen left home and went to work as a farm and ranch hand for many local farmers. He then went to work more permanently for his future father-in-law, Fred Kerzmann Sr.
Glen enlisted in the US Army in 1945 and served in the Aleutian Islands and then Japan where he was promoted to MP. Upon his discharge, he returned to the Emmet area and began his lifelong career in farming and ranching. He married Dorothy Kerzmann on October 20, 1948 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison, ND. They made their home in Blackwater Township until retiring in 1988, when they moved into Garrison.
Glen worked very hard his whole life. Besides his farm and ranch operation, he was also known as the area "Vet". When neighbors had any sort of problem with their animals Glen was the first to be called, and he always responded. In his leisure, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved antiques, so attending auctions became a favorite pastime as well. He was also not shy about "dropping in" to visit with friends and family members, sharing many, many old time stories. "Uncle Glen" was a big man, but he had a soft heart when it came to his nieces and nephews and their children. He loved little kids, and made a point of knowing the little ones in the family as best he could.
Glen is survived by his brothers, Harley (Grace) Karlson, Belt, MT, Norman (Elva) Karlson, Garrison, ND, Vernon Karlson, Gilbert, MN; sister, Melba Morgan, Manteca, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Leonard, Elmer, and Raymond.
